In Florida the water heater is often on the far side of the house, so the first step is to let the water run — anywhere from 30 seconds up to 5 minutes — before it turns hot. This is normal here.
Don’t rely on the hot/cold markings on the faucet. If the hot side isn’t working, try the other side and again give it up to 5 minutes. A summer tip: the side that feels lukewarm at first is usually the cold side, while the side that feels icy at first will warm up within a few minutes.
